Attorney Profile | Madeline Lamb
West Chester family lawyer and mediator
I was raised in a very small town in North Carolina. The experience was invaluable in providing me with the core values which I have utilized throughout my adult life. I graduated from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. I was fortunate to be elected to Phi Beta Kappa upon graduation and graduated magna cum laude. There was a hiatus between my college graduation and law school, but I attended the Villanova University School of Law graduating cum laude and as a member of Order of the Coif. During my time at Villanova Law School, I was on the Law Review. I worked for two other law firms prior to opening my own practice in 1984. I have always limited my practice to family law. In terms of professional affiliations, I am a member of the Family Law Sections of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Chester County Bar Association. These affiliations provide excellent continuing education and also a collegiality with fellow family law practitioners who provide a wealth of knowledge when questions arise.
In the community I have been very active with the Chester County Hospital. I served on the Board of Directors of the hospital for more than three decades. I was also active in the Chester County Art Association and still remain very supportive of the work that it does in the community.
My passion, however, outside of my family, has always been family law. It is an area of the law in which I find myself as lawyer, teacher and student because I find that the more I think I know about family law, the less I really know. I learn from my clients every single day.
There is no right or wrong way to divorce. It is always painful. It always causes grief. It often causes anger. It precipitates a flood of emotions that, at first, seem unbearable. I try to take the lessons I have learned from my clients and the coping mechanisms that many of them have developed and use them in my practice. I like to compare a divorce and all its ramifications to a triathlon. There are times when you think you absolutely cannot go further, but at the end, when that finish line slides under your feet, one emerges stronger and more confident.
Legal Assistant | Judy Rambo
Judy Rambo, the legal assistant at the law firm of Madeline H. Lamb, actually wears many hats and, among other things, is in charge of scheduling all of the appointments and court dates. Regardless of how you contact me by phone, email, or fax, Judy is the person who responds to you and tells you the basic procedures for setting up an initial consultation. I do charge for that initial consultation. I charge a flat fee, and it usually lasts approximately one and a half hours.
We have a conflict file set up so Judy will be inquiring as to your wife's or husband's name so that we can run it through our conflict file. Once you have seen us for an initial consultation, even if you do not retain our services, we are prohibited from speaking with your spouse. Many people ask if we can represent both parties. The answer is no. It is prohibited by our disciplinary code. If your spouse decides to represent himself/herself (pro se), I will then communicate with him/her by email always copied to my client.
